Saturday December 5th
Birmingham Town Hall

It was, I believe, our first concert at Birmingham Town Hall. This historic building right in the heart of Birmingham proved to be a superb venue. The architecture, ambience and the acoustics were excellent. Despite the draw of one of Europe's biggest German Christmas markets, the audience was excellent in this concert in aid of The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Performances Birmingham Limited and it was a resounding success.

Our soloist was Gaynor Keeble, keeble Mezzo Soprano, a truly international star with an impressive pedigree of competition and operatic success. Her programme ranges from Donizetti to Ivor Novello and the choir joined her in 'You'll Never Walk alone'

David Williams was the soloist in the ever popular 'Working Man' and the concert was held together by Berwyn Evans our compère. Annabel Thwaite was our accompanist and also for Gaynor Keeble.

This was the penultimate concert for our Musical Director, Dr Haydn James. He retires in January after 30 years in the post. This concert was typical of the high standard he expects and gets from the choir. He goes out with a bang on January 24th in his last official concert at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, a Gala concert with the Cory Band in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

He is seen in this photo at rehearsal in the Town Hall discussing the programme with Annabel Thwaite.

We now look forward to a short Christmas break before we start our 2010 concert programme in Cardiff on January 24th.
