Having barely had time to get our breath back after Cardiff, we were on our way to St Albans to the Cathedral and Abbey Church. We have sung here several times before, and it is a very good place to sing. This concert was in aid of Cherry Lodge Cancer care and Grove House Hospice. They put their all into setting up this concert and were repaid by a sell out audience.
The choir responded well and we are just getting used to our new formation with the First Tenors sandwiched between the Second Tenors and the Baritones. It was nice to add a few old favourites to our repertoire and David Williams was soloist in Working Man, which always goes down well.
Joanna Defries, Mezzo Soprano, entertained us in two spots with a fine selection. Baritone John Rawnsley showed the breadth of his repertoire singing from Verdi's Macbeth and Don Carlos and finishing with the music hall song 'My Girl's a Yorkshire Girl'.
Both were accompanied by Peter Crockford.
Haydn James our musical director conducted and the ever popular Annabel Thwaite accompanied us.
Berwyn Evans our compere held the show together showing a slight confusion between Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens.
A good concert for a very worthy cause, it has come to my attention that both Cherry Lodge and Grove House received £4000 each from the concert profits.
