Saturday October 17th
Romsey Abbey
The Choir last sang at Romsey Abbey in 1988 and what a delight it was to return. The concert was masterminded by Tudor Morgan who was the Chairman of London Welsh MVC between 1974 and 1976.
It was in aid of Wessex Medical Research and
Alastair Stewart OBE, the television broadcaster who is a patron of the charity, introduced and concluded the concert in a very eloquent way .
It was a marvellous place to sing and even our pieces being given a first airing sounded good. These were The Impossible Dream and Yr Anthem Geltaidd . The audience were very appreciative and the Abbey was full, with video screens for the areas with poor visibility of the stage.
We were delighted to introduce Rebekah Coffey as our soloist, it was her first concert
with us and we sincerely hope more will follow. She delighted the audience with a mixture of operatic arias and Irish melodies.
It was no surprise to see Rebekah as she is the daughter in law of chorister David Williams. David sang the solo in the ever popular 'Working Man'
Dr Haydn James was our conductor and we were pleased to welcome back Anita D'Attellis as our guest accompanist. Anita was the offical accompanist of the choir in 2003-4.
The evening rounded off nicely with refreshments in a local hostelry where London Welsh and Romsey Male Voice sang in friendly rivalry.
