September 5th
Eton College

It seemed an age since our last concert in July but traditionally we have no concerts in August and actually 2 weeks off rehearsal. It was a real thrill to be back at the historic Eton College Hall for a concert in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund. Needless to say it was a sellout and the atmosphere and acoustics produced a fine concert. We aired for the first time Karl Jenkins' Cantilena, a deceptively difficult piece with eternally long held high notes.
Gwawr Edwards was our soloist and she seems like a regular now. She captivated the audience with her mix of opera, welsh songs and light musical songs.
Simon Dinsdale was the organist and accompanied us on the more stirring pieces and gave us a chilling rendition of Bach's Toccata and Fugue.
Chorister Ian Edwards was the admirable compare and the opening address was by the Controller of the Army Benevolent Fund Major General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter KCVO OBE. The Closing address was by Kate Adie OBE who is a great supporter of the Army Benevolent Fund.
Dr Haydn James was our conductor in his 30th year as Musical Director of the Choir and in his last year, as he intends to stand down at the end of this choir year. We are indeed actively seeking a replacement for a career that will be hard to match.
The ever popular Annabel Thwaite was our and Gwawr's accompanist.
