September 4th

Bridgewater Hall
Manchester

On Saturday September 4th the choir bus again struck north. This time for a concert at the prestigious Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. We were not disappointed, the Hall was a spectacular venue and the acoustics of a standard to enable us to try and record the concert for a possible CD.
Bridgewater Hall

This was a new venture for us as we were organising the concert ourselves with a little help from the Motor Neurone Disease Society. There were lessons to be learned and we sang to a disappointing but very enthusiastic audience.
Like all good acoustic halls it is great for the audience but difficult for the choristers as the sound goes out and it is hard to blend. However our ever adaptable MD Edward-Rhys Harry produced an acceptable sound.

Our compere was the comedy performer and writer Andy Hamilton who held the concert together with his amusing anecdotes.
The Tenor Wynne Evans was our soloist. he delighted us with his humorous introductions and an insight into his role a Go Compario on the TV advert. He went on to sing a delightful range of songs from Ivor Novello to Puccini.

Annabel Thwaite was our accompanist on the piano and Robert Nicholls, the MD of the Eisteddfod winning choir Cor Meibion Taf, accompanied us on the organ.

In summary a very good weekend and a valuable experience
